Inspired by the runaway success of Rovio’s Angry Birds game the most downloaded paid app of 2010, Mattel has decided to update the Angry Birds premise to the real world.

Angry Birds Knock on Wood, set for a worldwide launch in May, is a new board game which will arm fans with their very own slingshot from which to launch their feathered ammo at a series of plastic blocks and pigs.

Players assume the role of either the titular birds or their porcine foes with players earning points for both demolition skill and the sturdiness of their plastic fortresses.

The Birds phenomenon isn’t likely to end there either, Rovio are said to be pitching the concept to film studios.
