Facebook is to mount a bid to become the premier platform for brand advertising in the UK by hosting an “influencer summit” at its Palo Alto headquarters in California.

The social network will fly out a host of top UK creatives from agencies including AKQA, Dare and LBI, in what the social networking site believes will be a mutually beneficial exchange of ideas.

On hand to give the guided tour will be a phalanx of the firms senior executives in a charm offensive which Facebook believes will make them the digital platform of choice for UK brands.

Facebook is attempting to monetise its online empire by diversifying revenues away from its existing direct response advertising model. This sees ads tailored to user’s personal information and usage history placed on profiles.

The network believes it has only scratched the surface of the commercial clout that comes with its 500m users however, by tapping into its unique position as a conduit between advertisers and consumers.

The announcement coincides with a recent $50bn valuation for the technology giant and is believed to herald a mooted flotation in 2012.
