Phil Wright, a co-founder and former CEO of Big Communications, has joined Birmingham agency Chapter as non-executive chairman.

Wright spent 13 years at Leicester ad agency Big and was made CEO after the agency's sale to the Mission Marketing Group in 2005. He resigned in December 2009 to "pursue other business interests outside of advertising".

"Given that I’m really enjoying my new business ventures, it was always going to take something a bit special to coax me back into the agency scene. But I have to say when Ian, Martin and Mike outlined their philosophy and business model, it became an easy decision," Wright said.

"They’re talented guys, intent on building an agency genuinely focused on client understanding and closeness. It’s very exciting, and, although a very different animal, reminds me of the early days of Big."

The appointment will see Wright renew acquaintances with former Big colleague Mike Rose, who is now managing director of Birmingham-based Chapter.

Rose said: "This is a fantastic appointment for us and we’re delighted to have Phil on board. I’ve worked closely with him at both Cogent and Big Communications, where his knowledge, drive and enthusiasm were always infectious - it’s in his blood. He’ll be a strong and very welcome addition to the board."

Wright takes up the role with immediate effect.
