MoD censorship stokes PR debacle
The Ministry of Defence has found itself under the cosh after MPs ruled the government department had been “foolish” after it deleted key financial details in contracts released to the public today.
Defence mandarins had been busying themselves with black marker pens in a bid to hide their controversial negotiations for two new aircraft carriers with the previous government, who were condemned by defence secretary Liam Fox for behaving like: “…out of control online shoppers.”
Their efforts are likely to be in vain however as the House of Commons is conducting its own public investigation into the £5.2bn deal, with access to uncensored contracts.
David Cameron has criticised the unbreakable nature of the contract signed with BAE Systems, cancelling the order would have incurred greater costs than proceeding.
