Independent rail ticket retailer thetrainline.com has begun a new advertising campaign to promote its mobile app.

The campaign, which began this week, highlights that passengers can now keep up-to-date with travel information through the app, while also buying train tickets while on the move.

Tickets can then be collected 10 minutes after purchase from ticket machines at across 900 stations.

Running for three weeks, the campaign will combine national TV and outdoor advertising in stations across the country.

Outdoor six sheets will be displayed over 800 sites across the UK, while the TV advert has been amended to highlight the free-to-download app.

Iain Hildreth director of marketing at thetrainline.com said, "thetrainline.com website is well known amongst UK train travellers as the place to go to save money on train tickets, but not everyone knows that we can also help our customers to save time too with our new mobile app.

"With 43% of rail passengers saying they would like easier ways to purchase and obtain train tickets, we're confident that travellers will find our mobile app a really convenient new way of buying train tickets on the move. This campaign is designed to let train travellers know that they can use our free mobile app to buy tickets or just check train times and to let them know that all they need to do to download it is text 'train' to 86688'."
