Townsend looks at some of the more technological stories that have made headlines in 2010.

I think the launch of Facebook Places is pretty big news. GPS has been a real topic of interest this year and now that the giant that is Facebook has well and truly got involved it only looks set to become more important. This combined with Facebook Deals means there are some very interesting times ahead for retailers and brands.

Groupon being referred to as ‘the fastest growing company in history’. It looks like exciting times for the company (and of course you have the Gap partnership to mention)

As I’ve mentioned, mobile has been huge this year as SMART phones have grown even further (fuelled by developments with iPhone, Android and Windows). Surely we can’t not mention the enormously popular Angry Birds, which according to Mashable has 42 million downloads – insane!

HTML5 definitely deserves a mention. Still in development, but I believe it to be a good step towards the future with regards to handling graphic content on the internet.

I think the succession of the Tipp-Ex: ‘TippExperience’ viral ad is a brilliant advertising story from 2010. A simple, interactive video from a brand you wouldn’t necessarily expect to see it from. Wildly popular, and a lot of fun.
