A Carry On style radio ad for Crabbie's alcoholic ginger beer has escaped ASA censure despite complaints from listeners that it was too risque.

Four listeners complained that the ad, created by Leeds-based Ponderosa Agency, was inappropriate because it contained sexual innuendos at a time when children would hear it.

One listener said their three year old child had heard it and had been "asking for Crabbies alcoholic ginger beer".

But the ad, which contained dialogue such as "I say gang, does anybody want my spotted dick?", was not found to be in breach of the watchdog's code.

The ASA said: "We acknowledged that the ad contained sexual innuendos and was broadcast at a time when children might hear it. However, we considered that, because the innuendos were mild and unlikely to be understood by young children, they were unlikely to cause harm or otherwise be considered unsuitable for them.

"We concluded that the ad was acceptable without a scheduling restriction."
