A further 10 hyper local websites covering towns, cities and communities across the North East of Scotland and South Lanarkshire have been launched by STV local.

This follows the online and mobile initiative’s pilot launch in September within the North Lanarkshire local authority area.

Individual sites have now been created for Aberdeen City, Buckie, Elgin, Forres, Lossiemouth, Stonehaven, Cambuslang, East Kilbride, Hamilton and Rutherglen.

Further launches are planned Fraserburgh, Peterhead and Deeside as the broadcaster presses ahead with its plan to cover the entire Scottish population within 18 months.

Each site is designed to convey a range of content to local communities, including news, event listings, weather updates, traffic information and business listings.

This material is sourced from local content providers, including community groups and businesses.

Rob Woodward, Chief Executive of STV, said: “This year alone we have launched the STV News iPhone app, STV HD and a content deal with YouTube, and we continue to build our digital presence with the ongoing roll-out of STV Local.”
