Marks & Spencer’s tenure as Britain’s top family brand is at an end, according to Yougov’s FamilyBrands report.

It contends that Boots has supplanted the former High Street favourite by dint of promoting and supporting family values.

M&S dropped down to sixth position in the annual table, joined by a slew of supermarkets including Morrison’s and Sainsbury which dropped out of the top 10 altogether.

Waitrose was the only big box grocery retailer to buck the trend, climbing the rankings to eighth slot whilst rival store the Co-operative clung on to second.

Other brands to make it into the psychologically significant top 10 included Fairy, Warburtons, Tetley, Hovis and BBC 1 & 2; indicating that as far as Britain’s families are concerned, traditional is best.
