George W Bush plugs memoirs on Facebook

Former US president George W Bush and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg have teamed up for a live webcast from the social network’s Palo Alto headquarters.

Bush submitted himself to an hour of interrogation from an assembled audience of Facebook staff and users in order to drive sales of his recently published memoirs, Decision Points.

With a potential audience of 500m Bush was quick to spy a marketing opportunity, something he didn’t shy away from admitting when explaining his attendance; “You got a lot of people paying attention to us and I'm trying to sell books.”

Bush currently has around 600,000 “friends” on the social network, including some in high places; notably Facebook’s general counsel Ted Ullyot who has strong ties to the Republican Party.

Speaking of the tome Bush said: “This book is my way of letting you in on my life as president and that is it. I am not trying to shape any post president. If you see me in an airport I hope you wave with all five fingers, but if you don't, you won't be the first."
