Israeli Army enlists Facebook to snare draft dodgers
Stung by the wayward antics of its soldiers on Facebook, from a smiling recruit snapped next to blindfolded Palestinians to a page revealing the identities of 200 soldiers who fought in last years Gaza war, the Israeli military is looking to turn the tables by turning the social media site from a liability to an asset.
A team of investigators has been established there to pore over the site profiles of female Israeli’s who have refused to join the military on grounds of being devoutly religious.
Smelling a rat the Army high command has been sniffing out tell tale slips that will reveal their fibs, including pictures of them eating in non kosher restaurants, or in immodest dress and updates on the Sabbath when Ultra-Orthodox Jews are supposed to forego the use of electrical equipment.
The team have even been known to send out fake party invites on a Friday night, the start of the Jewish Sabbath, to snare bogus religious claims.
Under Israeli law a woman convicted of lying about her religious convictions can be prosecuted if charged within 60 days, although no criminal cases have yet been instigated.
