Tennent’s Lager has unveiled a new £1million state-of-the-art hospitality industry training facility at its Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow.

The new Tennent’s Training Academy will be officially launched on November 11th and brewery bosses are hailing it as an important step in promoting skill and excellence among the next generation of hospitality workers across the country - whether they work at the bar, in the kitchen or in the business management and promotional side of the industry. The new facility - designed by Edinburgh-based agency 442 - aims to push Tennent’s commitment to quality and leadership in Scotland and an investment in the future, not just of the brand and lager category, but of the industry as a whole. An empty building on the Wellpark site has been converted and modernised to house four bespoke training rooms, including a wine and spirit room with a tasting table, a working bar and beer cellar, plus a large high-spec kitchen spec kitchen with chef’s kitchen table – all designed to replicate facilities in the real working world. Managing Director of Tennent Caledonian Breweries, Mike Lees, comments, ”Scotland’s on-trade has had a very challenging few years, and we are committed to doing what we can to provide positive support and investment in our shared future. The development of this facility has come before any other non-operational on-site investment at Wellpark this year and we believe prioritising this investment which benefits the trade, is exactly the right thing to have done, especially in the current climate. “There is no other facility like this in Scotland and we are delighted to be involved in establishing a centre of excellence dedicated to maintaining and improving service standards across the Scottish hospitality sector and adding value for our customers. Work has been ongoing at Wellpark since summer, to make sure that this new facility is of the very highest standard before we begin welcoming the first recruits for training mid November.” Backed by an investment of £1million, the new Tennent’s Training Academy is equipped with a portfolio of industry recognised courses and qualifications including mixology, customer service, wine and spirit training, cellar management, door security, a cook school, health and safety and business management.
