Samaritans is launching a Christmas direct mail campaign to thank supporters and tell them what the charity has achieved with their help.

The campaign, created by Cheltenham agency TDA, also hopes to rekindle donations from lapsed supporters.

Mailing packs include a personalised letter from Samritans' CEO, Catherine Johnstone, and an example of a heartfelt thank you letter sent to the charity by someone it had helped.

Supporters will also receive a Christmas card and Christmas paper chains which they can use to write their own personal festive message to the charity's volunteers.

Lorna Roberston Reed, head of individual giving at Samaritans, said: “We want to thank each and every supporter and encourage them to carry on helping us. It is because of them that Samaritans can continue to offer 24 hour confidential, non-judgemental support to people in emotional distress.“

The campaign begins this will and will be followed by a reminder mailing on 6 December.

The second mailing will include messages from a Samaritans volunteer about their experiences of helping people in emotional distress over the Christmas season.

Corinne LeLoup, senior account director at TDA, said: “In these austere times, it’s more important than ever for us to provide evidence of the tangible outcome of supporters’ donations.

“We want them to feel like they’re a part of the organisation and to demonstrate just how valuable their support is to the charity.”
