The BBC is to produce a British interpretation of hit US show Mad Men, a depiction of the 1960’s advertising industry set in New York.

Its UK adaptation will be set in 1950s London and dramatise the production of a topical news programme at the genesis of modern television.

Dominic West, the actor who starred in HBO drama The Wire, has been recruited to play the lead role as newsreader alongside Ramola Garai and Ben Wishaw.

A love triangle surrounding the trio’s complex personal and professional relationships and a mysterious murder will form the heart of the shows narrative.

Named The Hour the six part series will be screened on BBC2 next year.
