Nick Needham, creative director at Emperor Design has left the Edinburgh agency to take up a freelance role.

Needham, who has been with Emperor for nearly two-and-a-half years, having joined from NavyBlue after seven years, in 2007, has set up his own company N-31.

Prior to NavyBlue, where he was a senior designer, he spent four years as a designer at Tayburn.

Needham told The Drum that he had always wanted to be able to explore and develop his own ideas, which he hoped he could now do working independently.

“Being small and independent will enable me to work with other designers and companies to put together custom-built teams for projects. I also anticipate keenly having direct design relations with my clients,” he said, adding that he was already working with a number of clients and developing a range of other contacts.
