A new social media training event from MiNetwork and Drum blogger Gordon McIntyre-Kemp got off to a flying start last night with a launch event in Manchester.

The packed-out event at The Hive saw Gordon MacIntyre-Kemp explain the thinking behind Go-Social, which has been organised by his firm Intelligise in association with The Drum and Marketing Industry Network.

MacIntyre-Kemp, a popular social media blogger at The Drum, promised Go-Social would "cut through all of the false mystique and guru talk that hides the real practical applications of social media in marketing”.

In a lively format, five local companies gave snappy two-minute presentations about social media and its potential.

In his presentation, Delineo's social media manager Tom Mason vindicated the decision to hold the inaugural event in Manchester by informing the audience that 7 percent of UK Twitter users live or work in the city.

David Schofield of Ironbeard Films said: "I have to admit tonight’s event completely changed my attitude to social media for the better."

Next on the agenda for Go-Social are two Bootcamp events that promise to be quite different from typical marketing conferences.

The first bootcamp on November 25 will showcase best practice examples of social media marketing within UK companies.

In the second bootcamp the audience will be challenged to present their own case studies showing how they put knowledge gleamed on the first day into practice.
