The BBC has reportedly drawn up a three-stage plan beginning in May next year to move around 2,300 staff to MediaCityUK in Salford Quays.

The Guardian says it has seen the BBC's "migration plan" for moving five departments - children's, learning, sport and parts of 5 Live and future, media and technology - from London to the new BBC North base.

The moves will happen in three "waves", the paper reports, with the first between May and July 2011.

That first batch of movers is expected to include Dragons' Den, Question of Sport, many Cbeebies and CBBC staff, marketing and finance employees in children's and sport, learning production management and staff in comedy and drama who are already based in Manchester.

The next two waves will take place between August and October 2011 and November and December 2011 or in 2012.

Radio 5 Live presenters are expected to be in place in Salford next Autumn and Blue Peter is due to move in July 2011.

The controversial move of BBC Breakfast is understood to be planned for Easter 2012.
