With the Ryder Cup set to go into full swing Colin Montgomerie has launched a pre-emptive bid to prevent a boiling over of frustrations into the (very public) realm of social media.

Cognisant of Kevin Pieterson’s “error”, the English cricketer ill advisedly sent out a tweet describing his omission from the T20 squad as a “**** up,” Monty has decided to crack down on loose tweets sapping morale in his own squad.

This has seen Monty ask the European team to respect the privacy of the dressing room and whatever is said between teammates as the players prepare for their Celtic Manor showdown.

The Scot will be hoping his pre-emptive action will ensure the only birdy's encountered are on the fairway.
