Strongbow is to run a press campaign in honour of Peggy Mitchell, Barbara Windsor’s long-suffering character in Eastenders, who is set to bow out after 16 years.

Created by St Luke’s, the campaign pays tribute to the character, for her hard graft, grit and determination while pulling pints behind the bar of the Queen Vic pub and will run in tomorrow’s Daily Mirror, The Sun, Daily Star and The Metro.

Gillian Graham , assistant brand manager for Strongbow at Heineken UK, explained: “We couldn’t let the departure of one of soap’s most famous characters pass without recognition. Fiercely protective of her family and the Mitchell name, Peggy is an iconic character who has faced a multitude of personal trials and tribulations over the years and always come out fighting – she’s definitely earned her Bowtime.”

The tactical press executions is the latest in Stongbow’s campaign, which celebrates people earning their Bowtime after hard graft.

Previous campaigns have featured the Brawn GP Team for Jenson Button’s Drivers Championship win last year, and Freddie Flintoff’s physiotherapist for the player being able to help England win the Ashes.
