Open microphones are to be used to record the families of the tennis players during the US Open at Flushing Meadows.

This will be the first time that families of the players will be recorded while watching their loved ones perform on court.

The sound feed will be broadcast after being vetted for expletives or libelous comments against opponents with the aim of giving TV viewers an insight in how the teams of each player reacts during a grand slam competition.

Andy Murray, UK Tennis number one, has said that he has no problems with the introduction of the recording technology picking up the comments of his family.

“They are pretty vocal and I have no problem with that. There’s no coaching, just encouragement, a lot of ‘come-ons’ and ‘you can do it’, and those sort of things,” he commented.
