Smokefree North West has launched a campaign to highlight the dangers of second-hand smoke to children and young people, created by McCann Manchester.

The ‘Take 7 Steps Out’ campaign will run across TV, PR and events, and will urge parents who smoke to go outside when doing so.

The 30 second TV campaign will appear on ITV Granada and Border until 13 September, while McCann Manchester’s PR and events team will deliver 25 road show events across the North west, as well as media relations activity.

The campaign website will feature tips about making a home smokefree, and includes a blog by campaign mascot ‘Steparoo’.

Andrea Crossfield, director of Smokefree North West, said: “Nationally, second-hand smoke is currently responsible for 9500 children being admitted to hospital every year and 300,000 GP visits. McCann Manchester has created a powerful brand and campaign for us that will support our aim of protecting children and young people from secondhand smoke.”
