National Galleries of Scotland to work with Lightmaker UK to create a digital interpretation for the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.

The Tumbridge Wells digital media agency has been tasked with the digital interpretation of two key locations within the gallery, named Faces & Places, which will aimed at families, children and young people.

Faces & Places will be made up of five sections: Faces, Places, Timelines, Collection and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, offering visitors an open-ended and self directed exploration of the collection.

The online and offline experiences will also aim to be directly connected.

Lightmaker UK has been tasked to develop front end software design that is simple, contemporary and in-keeping with the exhibitions. The back-end system is expected to be robust, easy-to-update and integrated with the gallery’s relevant systems such as the content system for nationalgalleries.org.

A spokesperson for National Galleries of Scotland said: “The contract has yet to be finalised and the National Galleries will release more information when we are in a position to do so.”

The budget is understood to be £147,200 for this project, which saw three companies offer their services when advertised in May.
