The BBC has appointed Liz Molyneux to the new Salford-based role of partner for BBC North and the nations at the BBC Academy training division.

Working from MediaCityUK, where the corporation is moving more than 2,000 staff, Molyneux will be responsible for supporting training programmes in BBC centres outside London.

Her new boss, academy director Anne Morrison, said Molyneux had "forged great relationships in the north" in her previous roles.

She was formerly business development lead for BBC North and before that was head of the BBC's network current affairs department based in Manchester.

On her new position, Molyneux said: "The world of content creation and broadcast has turned on its head over the last half decade - technologically and economically. Training and development has to be one-step ahead of the game, not only in what it delivers, but also in how it delivers it."

The Academy was started in April 2009 as a home for the BBC's internal training divisions and it nurtures journalism, leadership, production and technology skills.
