Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) has launched an app for iPhone, iTouch and iPad, offering information on more than 600 business from within the city.

Developed by Glasgow and London digital agency Nation1, the free-to-download app offers details of real-time special offers and discounts for businesses within the ‘style mile’ within the city centre.

As well as special offers, the app offers an A-Z director of the businesses in the area and has been integrated with Google Maps.

Scott Taylor, chief executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said that the Bureau was committed to utilising new technology to promote the city’s attractions to a local and international audience as well as enhancing the visitor experience.

Taylor added: “The creation of the style mile app, with its real-time information, demonstrates once again that Glasgow is ahead of the innovation curve and reinforces our credentials as the largest retail centre in the UK outside London’s West End.”

Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, added; “It’s important that we build on the success of being named as the second best shopping destination in the UK in the recent CACI survey and initiatives such as the style mile app will allow us to do just that. The new technology can only help boost Glasgow's profile and play a key role in helping secure further inward investment."

Contact centre service provider Bellcom assisted in compiling information on the businesses for the project.
