R&R Ice Cream, the makers of Skinny Cow and Fab, has launched a new ice cream brand, Spoony’s.

The new brand has been launched to challenge established brands such as Ben & Jerry’s, and will initially include four flavours: Rocky Road, Caramel, Cookies & Cream and Double Chocolate Muffin.

The Spoony’s brand name and identity was developed by CHILLI UK, with the Leeds-based brand consultants also responsible for the packaging design.

Charlotte Hambling, senior marketing manager of R&R Ice Cream, said of the design: “The playful branding and packaging design is bright and eye catching and creates great on-shelf standout. The pack copy tells the consumer exactly what they’re going to get inside the tub and highlights the tasty flavour combinations.”

While David Whittle, CHILLI UK’s MD, commented: “The brief was to create a brand positioning and design that was all about self indulgence and personal reward and also communicated the unique flavours and ingredients on pack. Importantly, the design needed to appeal to families, as they were identified as a key target audience, and by using colour and psychedelic shapes, we achieved this.”

Meanwhile CHILLI UK has also designed the packaging for a new premium range of popcorn from Butterkist.

The new range includes Toffee Popcorn Clusters with Pecan and Almonds, and Toffee Popcorn Coated with Thick Milk Chocolate, and CHILLI UK was tasked with creating packaging that reflected the luxury positioning of the brand.
