The European launch of Microsoft’s first mobile phone, Kin has been cancelled, with rumours circling that only 500 handsets have been sold in the US since its launch in May.

The social networking phone has been scrapped with Microsoft now believed to be focusing on the latest version of its mobile software, Windows Phone 7 instead.

A statement from Microsoft, said: "We are integrating our Kin team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from Kin into future Windows Phone releases and beyond."

Kin will continue to be available in the US through Verizon.
