North West based integrated communications firm, APS Group has been appointed as the BBC’s print partner to manage pan-BBC print requirements and other associated activities following a competitive tendering process.

The scope of the contract covers both fast-turnaround digital items and major print jobs for internal and external publications including the BBC staff newspaper Ariel, and the annual BBC Proms Guide (pictured).

APS will work with existing suppliers, and claim that they will be providing cost savings and reducing the environmental impact of the materials by sourcing print from locations closer to their final destination.

APS will implement its "environmental impact calculator" for each print job enabling the BBC to measure its carbon emissions.

APS MD Nick Snelson said: “The BBC presented us with a very complex set of print requirements and to be selected to provide these services is testament to our reputation, ability and focus on quality.

“Our ability to manage these complexities through a network of local suppliers will result in a more efficient service experience for the BBC. We will now begin a process of identifying the suppliers which will service the contract and highlight the range of services available to each BBC office.

“That this contract has been awarded to a North West based company, further demonstrates that the region’s print services industry is in good health. We are pleased that the BBC has chosen APS to be its print partner.”

The award of this contract follows on from APS Group’s appointment to provide a similar service to a range of Scottish Government bodies in March 2010.
