From the country that gave the world the deep fried mars bar comes a fresher form of deep fried antics, as the Leith Agency launch a series of mini gigs around local chippies - part of a commitment to promote home grown artists.

Leith Records are laying their chips on the table with “5 bands for a fiver” as part of the Leith Festival. Each band in addition to serenading hungry take away patrons will go head to head in a ‘Batter of the Bands’ competition for a tasty treat of their own, a hearty fish supper and recording release.

The five outfits duking it out on the night comprise Electro pop group Futuristic Retro Champions who are up against grungie Glaswegian rockers, Schnapps. They will be contending against popular local boys Jakil and Little Eskimos who will serve up some indie treats whilst Leith’s “brutal beef poppers”, The Fusiliers, dish out some sonic tonics.

Those wishing to give their eardrums a battering are invited to attend Studio128, Pitt St, Edinburgh on Thursday June 17. Tickets are available from Leith Records with all profits going towards local charity Fairbridge.
