VisitGuernsey is putting social media at the heart of a new online strategy to attract visitors to the island.

The tourism body believes a branded blog, Facebook page and Twitter feed will help it target existing and potential visitors from elsewhere in the UK.

It has also introduced a Flickr photostream and YouTube channel.

Jason Moriarty, marketing manager for trade and media at VisitGuernsey, said: "Our new social media platforms allow us to be more accessible to our audience, and build relationships with them via the networks that they are already using.

"Our social media strategy may also encourage interest from a new audience who may not be familiar with our classical PR and marketing work."

The aim is to "introduce people to Guernsey's personality, its natural beauty, the people, quirks and history that make it a special place to visit," Moriarty added.
