Today's newspapers are awash with coverage of Gordon Brown's overheard comments in which he described one staunch Labour supporter as a bigot. The BNP is to pounce on this gaffe by launching a press ad campaign.

Announced in a BNP email, party leader Nick Griffin has pounced on Brown's overheard comments, in which he described a woman he had met in Rochdale, Gillian Duffy, as a "bigot" running to Mrs Duffy's defence.

In the message to BNP supporters Griffin said: "She [Mrs Duffy] asked some very sensible questions about taxation on pensions and the immigration problem. For Mr Brown to have then dismissed her as a bigot just because she asked him about immigration shows the utter contempt with which the Labour Party regards even their own voters."

"The BNP will be launching a newspaper advertising campaign to focus voters' attention on this shocking state of affairs. Our target areas are going to be Barking and Dagenham, Leicestershire, Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester and Barnsley."

Yesterday, crisis PR expert Jonathan Hemus spoke to The Drum about how Brown's team should handle 'Bigotgate'.
