PHD North has been appointed media planning and buying agency for exotic fruit juice brand Rubicon.

The appointment comes as Rubicon embarks on its biggest ever year of marketing support - its owner, AG Barr, is investing £5m into the brand in 2010.

Part of this investment will see Rubicon sponsor Sky's Summer of Cricket coverage after a deal was brokered by Drum, PHD's content and sponsorship agency.

Adrian Troy, AG Barr's head of marketing, said: "We fully expect Rubicon’s massively increased exposure during Sky Sports’ Summer of Cricket to further boost buoyant sales for the brand .”

The TV sponsorship begins on 30 April and will be supported in store through point of sale in cash & carry and convenience stores "as well as the major multiples". More cricket-themed activity is expected to follow throughout the year supported through the line.

Jason Spencer, managing director of PHD North, said: "We are very excited about the opportunity the Rubicon brand offers us to help fuel their continued growth. The SKY sponsorship, coupled with other marketing activity across the year gives us a great platform to deliver pioneering work for an ambitious client.”
