In a move that sounds like something the Chip Shop Awards would be proud of, Marmite has issued legal proceedings against the British National Party (BNP) to remove an image of its product from a political broadcast.

The brand has said that the BNP has used the image of a jar of Marmite in the top left corner of a video broadcast featuring party leader Nick Griffin, without its permission.

A statement from Marmite, said: "It has been brought to our attention that the British National Party has included a Marmite jar in a political broadcast shown currently online.

"We want to make it absolutely clear that Marmite did not give the BNP permission to use a pack shot of our product in their broadcast.

"Neither Marmite nor any other Unilever brand are aligned to any political party.

"We are currently initiating injunction proceedings against the BNP to remove the Marmite jar from the online broadcast and prevent them from using it in future."

The Drum has watched the offending video and at no point does it clarify why the image of a jar of Marmite is featured although it could be in reference to the recent Marmite Love Party/Hate party which ran recently, the videos for which as below.
