Digital agency Matmi has created on an online game to promote the new Gorillaz album Plastic Beach and the band's latest single.

The Cheshire agency worked with the band's record label, Parlophone, to create Escape to Plastic Beach, a 3D game which spans eight levels and combines Flash, Unity and MP3 formats.

The partly free to play game is split into three chapters and starts by recreating the virtual band's recent Stylo music video. It features original artwork, voiceovers from the band and tracks from the new album.

The final chapter, which players need to pay to play, includes an MP3 download of new single Superfast Jellyfish featuring De La Soul and Gruff Rhys from Super Furry Animals.

Fans who bought a deluxe 'Experience' edition of the album can access the entire game for free through their CD copy.

And players can share their high scores on the Gorillaz website.
