Emma Diamond, senior account manager at Smarts has been elected as the new chair of Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Scotland.

Diamond will take over the role from Debbie Byers to lead the committee of 13 PR practitioners, with Laura Campbell, managing director of Aura PR being appointed as vice-chair.

CIPR Scotland represents more than 700 members from the public, private and voluntary sectors to freelance consultants and students.

Commenting on the challenges for the committee, Emma Diamond said: “The committee’s focus last year was to provide value for money for our members and this remains our commitment for 2010.

“This year we continue to have good representation from a range of specialisms including freelance, agency and public sector and maintain a presence in the north of Scotland, which will help us to respond to the needs of PR professionals and broaden our reach.”
