The Royal Navy has announced that its website relaunch and digital strategy is to be handled by AKQA following a six-way-pitch handled by the COI.

AKQA will be tasked with implementing a strategy that places digital at the heart of the Royal Navy communications plan, and will also create a new look and feel for the Royal Navy website, as well as procuring and implementing a new content management system.

The agency will also work alongside the COI Interactive Services team to execute tactical digital activity for Royal Navy recruitment marketing, including the use of digital channels such as mobile, social media and search.

The Royal Navy issued a tender in December in the hunt for a digital agency.

At the time, a spokesperson for COI Interactive, said: "Digital channels are a key component of the Navy’s communications strategy. In the next two years the Navy will be relaunching its corporate site and is committed to exploring its use of the semantic web, email, mobile and various social media channels that are key to their audiences. As such COI is committed to helping them appoint the right full service agency to meet these digital requirements."
