Figures to be announced by commercial broadcaster ITV this week are expected to show a significant year on year jump.

The network is expected to reveal later this week that advertising income is to increase by 18% in April as a result of a first quarter rise in advertising of 8% across its terrestrial and digital channel, with a 6% jump in revenues at ITV1.

The impressive sounding rises are thought to be as a result of the financial and automotive sectors beginning to free up marketing budgets in recent months.

However despite the upbeat announcement ITV chairman Archie Norman is expected to say that for the year profits are down more than 50% at £75m, down 10% year on year. Also, the network is still involved in a number legal disputes with Scottish broadcaster STV, which look set to rumble on for some time to come.
