Community media group Archant has appointed Mike Walsh, who has worked in advertising and marketing for more than 30 years, to its board as a non-executive director.

Walsh is a director of advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather South Africa and Ogilvy & Mather Africa and is a non-executive at global brand identity and design agency The Brand Union.

He has previously been a main board director of Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide for 16 years and was the agency's chief executive for Europe, Middle East and African operations for 12 years.

Walsh, 60, has also worked as vice president of business development for mobile marketing firm Velti Plc and been chairman of the UK Disasters Emergency Committee.

He said: “Having worked in media for some 38 years I look forward to learning about the company and contributing my experience to its development.”

Walsh, who is based in London and North Norfolk, has worked on brands including Heinz baked beans, Cadbury's Chocolate and Baileys Irish Cream.

"To have someone of Mike’s calibre and experience, particularly in the advertising industry and in new media, joining the Board will add strength and depth to our team and I am sure will benefit the business in many different ways," said Archant chairman, Richard Jewson.
