Scotland's magazine industry body PPA Scotland is romping into the 21st Century with the appointment of its first ever female president.

Gilmour joined DC Thomson in 1988 having held marketing positions in the retail and service sectors. Over the years she created a Marketing Division encompassing ad marketing, direct marketing and a consumer research facility.

Now Head of Consumer Insight and Brand development, Gilmour advises the DC Thomson Board and the wider DCT group including Parragon Books, Puzzler Media and BrightSolid. Gilmour is currently studying for an MBA at the University of Strathclyde.

Nominated to take over the vice-president's role is Hamish Miller, publisher at Holyrood Communications. Miller has been involved in consumer and trade magazine publishing in Scotland, UK and further afield for more than 25 years. His media career began at The Scotsman where he worked on the launch of the Scotsman Magazine. He also worked on the launch of Today newspaper, moved to The Independent Magazine and then became Marketing Director of Thomson Press’ Far East magazine division in Hong Kong. Hamish launched Holyrood magazine in 1999 which has become Scotland’s leading current affairs and policy journal and at the grand age of fifty, can now admit to being joint founder and shareholder of Richard Ingram’s Oldie magazine.

Gilmour and Miller take over the reigns from Fraser Allen of White Light Media and Steve Craven of Craven Publishing. Helenor and Hamish will formally take office during the PPA Scotland meeting in Edinburgh on Wednesday 17 March.
