The Drum has learned that newspaper publisher DC Thomson has entered a consultation process which could see the loss of around 40 jobs in its print division in Glasgow.

It is understood that the company, which publishes The Sunday Post, The Evening Telegraph and The Courier, has chosen to cut its day shift in its print division but that the night shift in Glasgow will remain in place to handle the printing of its papers.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed the consultation process and explained: “The decision has been made as the Glasgow print and production operation has been running at less than optimum volumes for some time and we have to reduce our costs if we are to continue to be successful.”

The spokesperson also stated that the process would have no effect on the delivery process of the newspapers which were handled by the night production shift.
