The Chip Shop Awards - which takes its name from an award-winning campaign for a Llandudno chippy - is going global.

Joining the Chip Shop Awards movement are Australian-based marketing magazine Campaign Brief, Turkish magazine title Marketing Turkiye and IP Magazine and the Beirut-based magazine ArabAd. Last week the Chip Shop Awards announced more international judges in the form of Fabian Frase of Jung Von Matt along with internationally acclaimed creative Simon Waterfall. Now, joining the judging panel this year will be Nadja Hatzy of Draft FCB of Hamburg. Once again the judging panel will include legendary ad man Dave Trott and when asked why he wanted to return for more Chip Shop judging he said: "Why?Because the Chips take the piss out of how seriously advertising takes itself. Take the piss out of advertising's obsession with awards. Take the piss out of a little yellow wooden pencil elevated to the level of The Nobel Prize. And the symbol of a chip with a dollop of ketchup on it does that very succinctly." Said Director of the Awards Gordon Young, "Contrary to what Dave says the Chip Shop Awards is actually a very serious event that is rapidly becoming a symobol of world peace." The deadline for entries this year is 12 March and for a full rundown of the categories visit the Chip Shop Awards website by clicking here.
