A spokeswoman for Marketing Manchester has moved to correct any misunderstanding over the marketing body's funding.

Communications boss Louise Latham responded to an article on The Drum's website that highlighted that a clerical error had resulted in Manchester City Council paying 65% of Marketing Manchester's budget over the last six years, while nine other Greater Manchester City Councils had paid 35%, when it should have been the other way around.

The error resulted in each of the nine councils saving £46,000 over the period. However, Latham has moved to clarify that despite the error Marketing Manchester has still only received the budget that was agreed by the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) and has not been overpaid by £500,000 as may have been believed.

In her online comment, Latham stated: "To make it clear. Marketing Manchester has not received any accidental funding from the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA). Over the past six years Marketing Manchester has received precisely the amount of funding agreed by the AGMA board. The error highlighted is an internal AGMA accounts issue and is specific to the ratios the ten local authority members contribute to Marketing Manchester. The issue is one that AGMA has now resolved and does not impact on Marketing Manchester."
