Historic Scotland, the organisation responsible for many of the country's historic monuments, has appointed Tayburn to design its consumer and marketing print for next year.

The work will promote the organisation's tourism portfolio, which includes 78 attractions such as Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle, Urquhart Castle, Stanley Mills and the Orkney Islands.

Tayburn, which was invited to tender after winning a place on the Scottish Government roster, will design the Historic Scotland Members Handbook and an Events Guide showing the hundreds of events that the organisation will stage next year.

And the consultancy will create a printed map to accompany the 'Explorer Pass' used by visitors to Scotland looking to find the historic attractions.

The marketing materials are due to be printed in January and released in April next year in time for the key visitor season.

Jessica Wilson, account manager at Tayburn, said that as Historic Scotland distributes more than 2.5m pieces of printed material around the world the impact of the designs needs to be "strong and persuasive, while remaining true to brand values".

"We will be looking to refresh the print suite whilst maintaining Historic Scotland’s distinct visual style, creating a lively and fresh collection to communicate with visitors to Historic Scotland properties in 2010," she said.

Historic Scotland hopes the work will help it attract almost three million visitors from around the world to its properties next year.
