MadeByPi has launched the official website for this year's X Factor winner, Joe McElderry.

For the second year running, the Leeds digital agency created websites for the show's three finalists so the winner's site could launch as soon as they were crowned.

Staff waited on standby last night for the result and as soon as Dermot O'Leary announced that the 18 year old from South Shields had beaten Olly Murs in the public vote his site went live.

Dan Ayers, Sony Music’s director of digital services, said: “Building the winner’s site is always a time-pressured process. Effectively we have the week before the final to build three sites, all with robust community functionality considered as standard.

"It’s the digital equivalent of having a man in the CD manufacturing plant standing by a big red button, ready to start production late on a Sunday night when the winner is crowned.”

McElderry's website features his debut single 'The Climb', tour dates, news and forums.

Chris Hemingway, creative partner for MadeByPi, said: “We are delighted to be working with Sony Music again on the X Factor phenomenon.

"Its time-critical nature certainly tests the nerves, but the team rose to the challenge, amidst all the excitement and anticipation of the night.”
