Imperial War Museum North has appointed Hemisphere to design its forthcoming exhibition of work by war photographer Don McCullin.

Manchester-based Hemisphere was given the brief after a four-way competitive pitch and the consultancy will also handle the exhibition's supporting marketing campaign.

The exhibition will feature more than 200 photographs and personal memorabilia to show how war has shaped McCullin's life over the last half-century.

Hemisphere director Sue Vanden said: "The Don McCullin exhibition is a remarkable story of true old-school photo-journalism and will see many of McCullin’s hand printed photographs being displayed as large-scale reproductions for the first time.

"We have a very clear idea of how colour, graphics and interactivity can be combined with the unusual curving space inside IWM North to create impact and ensure engagement, accompanied by a potent marketing campaign that will compel the target audience to visit.”

It will be the tenth exhibition that Hemisphere has designed for the Salford Quays museum and will open on 6 February next year.

It will run there until June before travelling to Bath's Victoria Art Gallery in September and concluding at Imperial War museum in London from October 2011 to January 2012.
