August 2010 will see the launch of a new festival for the marketing industry which will run alongside Edinburgh’s main festival season.

Spearheaded by The Marketing Society, plans for the new event to showcase Scotland’s marketing talent will be unveiled tonight (25 November) at the society’s annual St Andrew’s dinner by William Burdett-Coutts of The Edinburgh Festival and Assembly Rooms (pictured).

The marketing festival is likely to take the form of a four day event involving keynote speakers, workshops, conferences and an awards ceremony for the best marketing initiative by a Fringe performer.

Other marketing organisations will be encouraged to put on their own events alongside this.

The event will mainly be funded by sponsorship, but Government funding is also being sought.

Graeme Atha, chairman of Frame Advertising and chairman of the Marketing Society, said: "We would love government to support the creative industries."
