Claire Rushton has been appointed by Golley Slater as head of PR for Leeds and Newcastle.

Rushton joins from the London base of communications company MS&L where she was a director on the account for Proctor and Gamble.

She has also worked at Weber Shandwick and Ketchum and Fleishman Hillard in her 12 years in the PR sector.

Rushton will be tasked with working across both the Leeds and Newcastle offices supporting clients such as RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors), the British Army, A4e and Miller Homes. She will also help to develop new business opportunities and secure new clients for both offices.

She said: “I’m delighted to be joining Golley Slater. I’m really looking forward to building good strong working relationships with my team and across our diverse client portfolio. I see my new role as a real opportunity to grow the Northern Golley Slater PR team and increase our market share by maintaining existing clients, winning new business, attracting talented staff to help brands and businesses get noticed.”

Chris Lovell, Golley Slater group chief executive, added: “We’re thrilled that Claire has joined us to head up the Leeds and Newcastle PR teams as our clients will benefit from her vast wealth of experience and knowledge of a wide range of sectors. Her appointment will help strengthen our current client relationships and develop new business relationships for the future."

He added: “In the short space of time that she has been with us, her enthusiasm and expertise has already proven invaluable, so I’m sure she will prove to be a real asset to the team.”

Rushton’s appointment to head up the Newcastle follows the departure of Sarah Hall, head of Golley Slater North East who left the company in July to begin her own consultancy.

Golley Slater recently restructured its PR operation with Joyce Lorigan being appointed as PR CEO following the acquisition of her London agency Margaret Street by the company.
