Basford collaborates with Sooper Double D for NEoN
To celebrate the launch of NEoN Digital Arts Festival, artists Johanna Basford and Sooper Double D have created a new piece of digital art that will be given out to all attendees.
The collaboration captures the spirit of the digital media community in Dundee, which has long-stood as a key hub of digital creativity and innovation in the UK.
Creating work for a number of worldwide brands involving everything from catwalk fashion to visual merchandising, Johanna Basford has won several awards for her work for a wide range of clients including The Scottish Parliament, DKNY and The Body Shop. Sooper Double D, the alias of graphic designer turned illustrator Lyall Bruce, has become increasingly prolific in the design industry, working closely with a variety of clients both in Scotland and across the world including MTV, Channel 4 and INK Digital.
Johanna Basford said: “Co-creation and cross disciplinary work is something I feel all Creatives should embrace, no matter what their discipline. Working with Sooper Double D was an excellent opportunity to explore what happens when you combine old school pen and ink drawings with a little high tech computer wizardry.”
Lyall Bruce added: “Collaboration is something I believe in hugely and something that doesn't happen enough, to be given this opportunity to work with Johanna Basford on an exclusive illustration project was too good to miss and if it can help boost the appeal of the first NEoN event in Dundee then even better."
NEoN Digital Arts Festival is the brainchild of several Dundee digital media companies and will include speaker sessions from many key industry players, such as Pixar character designer Bud Luckey, founder of The Designer’s Republic Ian Anderson, Dave Jones, founder of Crackdown developer Realtime Worlds and academic manager for Microsoft Andy Sithers.
