A new online initiative for the National Society of the Protection of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC)’s Childline service has been delivered by Leeds-digital agency Numiko.

The agency has built the ‘creative toolbox’ using of its Flash development experience and has developed a suit of tools on the Childline website which will enhance its counselling service and allow young people to use drawings, fridge-magnet poetry and other media to create designs to express their emotions and feelings as part of an on-line counselling service.

The drawings will be saved in a secure private ‘locker’ of can be put on show in the Childline Gallery to be viewed and discussed.

For the site, Numiko has also created Moodtracker which allowed children to update and track their mood status through words and emotions which will be monitored by Childline councillors.

Darren Navier, creative director at Numiko, commented: “We have been overwhelmed by the positive effect that the creative tools seem to have already made on young people in such a short space of time. It’s fantastic for us to have worked on a project that is really making a difference and enabling children to express their true feelings in a creative way.”

As well as the development of the tools, games have also been added to the site to allow children to interact with the website and relax.

Ian MacArthur, creative director and head of brand marketing for NSPCC, added: “We knew that to be really relevant to children and to reach out to them, we have to be doing amazing things online. These sorts of experiences – really valuable services which children actually enjoy using, will allow Childline to reach out and get to the heart of the problems of even more young people in this country.”
