Midlands Co-Operative Society has appointed Sarah Benfield as web services manager to head up its IT team of five.

Benfield will oversee the IT team, which is responsible for looking after 25 websites, in the newly created role.

She will be made responsible for driving the development of the overall strategy and growth of the web services function, in line with strategic business growth.

Benfield explained that she was attracted to the role “by the organisation’s huge enthusiasm for the opportunities that on-line offers”.

She continued: “It’s an attitude that indicates a really far-seeing approach and I am really excited about developing the huge potential that such a large and diverse organisation has.”

She joins the Midlands Co-op from the Law Society where she was web services manager with the responsibility for a team of four which oversaw nine websites.

Mark Ruttley, head of IT at Midlands Co-op, explained that the one of her first priorities will be to review the company’s web portfolio following the adoption of the Co-operative brand across its retail business.

He said: “In light of our decision to adopt the Co-operative brand across all of our retail businesses, one of Sarah’s first priorities will be to review our existing web portfolio and develop a plan to rationalise and unify these, in-line with our new brand strategy. This will help us to boost our on-line presence, allowing us to take full advantage of existing and emerging business opportunities.”
