Furniture retailer Habitat has announced that Mike Phillipson is to becomes its interim marketing director.

Phillipson, a director and shareholder at Propaganda, will take on the role, based at Habitat’s head office in London for a five month period until the new year.

He will work five days a month at the London office while continuing his role at Propaganda.

The Leeds-based agency has been working with Habitat for the last five months following its appointment in March and follows a review of the business by its new chief executive Mark Saunders, who joined Habitat from Levi Strauss Europe in March this year.

Phillipson will be tasked to direct the launch of the new marketing strategy with Habitat having recently appointed Red consultancy to use PR to support this new direction.

Propaganda will continue to be the lead brand and creative agency.

Saunders said “Mike brings with him a huge amount of strategic and marketing experience which will help us across Europe over the coming months. He will be an invaluable asset to everyone here at Habitat.”

Phillipson said: “I will continue to balance the work I am doing with my other clients at Propaganda - with the new role at Habitat. Clients like Habitat are looking for more flexible solutions to senior appointments like this and agencies like Propaganda, with their senior resource, are well placed to help them.”
